Dawn Sizer Wrote for Managed Services Journal on Turning SOC Alerts into Business Value
Her piece covers a specific gap: most MSPs relay SOC alerts as-is. Few turn that data into something a client can actually use.
The gap between monitoring and value
Many MSPs lean on an outsourced SOC for round-the-clock alerting but don't do much with the data beyond passing it along. Her recommendation starts small: separate security tickets into their own queue and filter out the obvious false positives, so what's left is actually worth looking at.
From alerts to strategy
Beyond day-to-day monitoring, that same data can inform longer-term direction: tracking recurring issues, watching relevant vulnerabilities, and spotting behavioral patterns that tend to show up before an incident. That's a layer a SOC alone doesn't provide.
What clients actually see
Most clients never interact with the SOC directly. They rely on their MSP to translate what happened into something useful, and clear reporting on what was caught and what it means does double duty as documentation for compliance and insurance.
