Client Story

A global manufacturer with more than 50 users across multiple countries

One Company, One Standard, Across Every Office

Regional systems had accumulated as the company grew. We brought them into one Microsoft 365 environment, one identity model, and one operating standard that now supports hiring anywhere.

Why this story is anonymous

We do not publish client names, specific countries, office locations, dates, or identifying configuration details. Combining those facts with the work would make the client too easy to identify and would expose information that does not belong in public. This is part of the same security standard we ask clients to follow.

The pattern

One company can quietly become several different environments.

Companies that grow into multiple countries rarely decide to run different systems in different regions. It happens one practical decision at a time. An office opens, someone local sets up what they know, and it works.

Repeat that across several offices and the company starts operating as several environments. Each region has its own tools, its own conventions, and its own interpretation of what secure means. Nobody chose fragmentation. The business simply outgrew a setup that had worked at a smaller scale.

The situation

The systems worked locally. The company needed them to work as one.

This manufacturer had offices across multiple countries and had reached that point. Its productivity platform was Google, mail ran on a separate platform, and applications had accumulated by region rather than by a company-wide decision.

Technology was handled in different parts of the world, by different people, in different ways. There was no unified security model because no one had previously been in a position to set one across the full environment. Each region had made reasonable security decisions for itself, but those decisions did not add up to one operating model.

The practical cost was not one dramatic failure. It was that nothing scaled. Every new office introduced another variation. Every question about access required several conversations across several time zones. A consistent policy cannot be applied to an environment nobody owns end to end.

What we did

We built one environment instead of copying the fragmentation.

We migrated the company from Google to Microsoft 365, including mail from its separate platform. We consolidated the applications that had accumulated regionally onto a common set, so the way work gets done no longer depends on which office someone sits in.

We architected SharePoint from the ground up and moved the company's data into it. That meant deciding how information for a global manufacturer should actually be organized, governed, and found. Reproducing the old regional structure in a new platform would only have preserved the same problem.

Once the environment was unified, we established a security model across it. Policies now apply everywhere instead of by region, and device standards keep equipment consistent regardless of which office it sits in. This is the same discipline behind our standards and security baseline, applied across an international business.

Microsoft 365 consolidation

Productivity, mail, identity, and collaboration brought into one environment instead of separate regional platforms.

Application standardization

A common approved application set replaced tools that had accumulated independently by region.

SharePoint architecture

Information organized for the way one global company works, rather than carrying old regional divisions into a new system.

One security model

Company-wide policies and device standards that apply consistently in every office.

The relationship

We are their IT department, not a team that left after migration.

This is an ongoing managed relationship. 3rd Element Consulting is the company's IT department, with responsibility for the environment end to end. We did not hand the new platform back to a separate internal team after the project.

That continuity matters. The same team that designed the standard manages the devices, supports the users, applies the policies, and keeps regional variation from returning as the company grows.

The outcome

Hiring anywhere no longer becomes an IT project.

The manufacturer now runs one environment with one set of policies, one identity model, and one standard for devices.

What that buys them is the ability to hire anywhere without turning each hire into a separate IT project. Equipment ships to the new person wherever they are. We connect to it remotely, configure it to the same standard every other device meets, and the employee is working on day one.

Before, onboarding in a new region meant finding someone local who could set up the employee in whatever way they happened to do it. Now the process is the same everywhere, and the company can grow into new places without the environment fragmenting again.

Work happens the same way in every office. That is harder to build than it sounds, and it is what makes a global company manageable. Our Microsoft 365 and cloud work provides the common platform. Ongoing ownership keeps it common.

The result

What changed.

The manufacturer now runs one environment with one set of policies, one identity model, and one standard for devices. Work happens the same way in every office, and hiring in a new place no longer becomes a separate IT project.
